Cynthia Woodring
Cynthia Woodring began her movement studies with Ballet as a child and Modern Dance as a young adult. She discovered yoga in 1993 and began teaching in 1995. She is a certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist and has been a 500-Hour Level Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance since 2002.
Her training began with Integral teachers and continued with 6 years of study in the Iyengar method, primarily with Sandra Pleasants. Since 2001 she has attended annual workshops in the Anusara style and more recently, with Paul Grilley (Yin Yoga) and Sarah Powers (Yin/Yang Yoga.) She is currently studying body mechanics with Carla Shifflett Bain, a Stott-trained Pilates instructor in Charlottesville, VA. She is passionate about refining her understanding of yoga while maintaining a balanced and open perspective.
Key teaching influences include Erich Schiffmann, Sarah Powers and Gangaji.
Along with teaching yoga part-time, Cynthia is a full-time teacher at the Virginia Institute of Autism. She is energized by the challenge of striving to find the right words and methods to evoke the deepest understanding and awakening. She strives to continuously point her students toward a direct encounter with the silence that abides at the heart of yoga.
