Every Quarter Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher, John Schumacher, offers a lecture and discussion to his students which is free and open to the public. These talks are held in his Bethesda, Maryland Unity Woods Yoga Center.
This lecture, held in the summer of 2009 is on the topic of Yoga and Awareness. John tackles the concept that anyone can do the physical poses of yoga asanas, but what makes yoga yoga is really the sense of awareness one brings to the practice.
John asks us to “Tune In, Turn On and Drop Out”, but quite a bit differently than the original use of the term as described by Timothy Leary. To find out how, listen to the audio recording below or subscribe to our podcast in iTunes or through your favorite feed reader.

I have enjoyed the simplicity of Mr. Schumacher’s explinations of the very intricated, yet vast study of yoga. From the most basic physical pose to the complex reasons of our most internal practice. I have fallen deep in love with the practice of yoga on and off my matt, and each moment is an invitation to freely open another awakening in myself and to the world around me. Thank you for freely inparting this lecture.
