The unpredictable spring weather along with unusual planetary alignments are keeping us in check this month. Green and yellow spring shoots and flowers are timidly breaking their way through the cold wet ground. The fresh spring greens will nourish and cleanse the Liver and Gallbladder after a heavy winter. One hardy green which can be found from the country to the city and most people can identify is Dandelion. Eating the fresh spring leaves in a salad or a tea acts as a blood purifier and according to herbalist, Matt Wood is specific for ” dullness of mind, lethargy and congestion of fluids. ”

During this transition time, you also want to be extra gentle with yourself by getting enough sleep and practicing standing poses to build your strength. iHanuman Yoga Teacher and Blissologist Eoin Finn recently taught a class tying together Yoga, Mysticism and the Nervous System which will be released this summer in our New Yoga Download Store! In the meantime, enjoy another Blissology class with Eoin Finn and cultivate Compassion for your self and others. All of us have experienced some sense of loss this winter and these practices are beneficial for this challenging time.

In May, look out for some recordings with Ashtanga Yoga Teacher, Kino MacGregor. Earlier this month iHanuman recorded a Sutra Talk and a workshop which breaks down some of the more challenging hip opening poses of the Ashtanga Primary Series.

Love is in the air this month. And if it’s not, we need to ask ourselves, ‘Why not?” There have been many a February in my life where I did not have a significant other and often felt lacking and inferior in the days leading up to Valentine’s Day. What I discovered is that sense of lack was usually due to missing self love. I had not learned to love myself, so how could I expect to someone else to love me?

Now, even though I am married to one of the best men in the world, self-love is still the most important love for me during February and every other month of the year. I have found that loving myself often leads to something greater. It allows me to love others and to share myself with not only my significant other and family members, but members of my greater community.

In honor of the month of love, iHanuman offers the members of our community a free heart meditation from one of the most well-loved teachers in the world, Erich Schiffmann. This meditation session comes from a recently released workshop recorded in Yellow Springs, Ohio. We hope you will practice this meditation, get in touch with your true self and share the free video with your friends.

We hope you will continue your commitment to yourself and practice yoga more fully this month so you can bring your love and light into the world.

What other ways will you Love Yourself this month?

In quintessential west coast style, fifteen hundred people will gather together in Vancouver, BC to practice Yoga at the 5th Annual Yogathon and Blissfest on Saturday July 21, 2007 to raise money for Camp Moomba, an organization that provides Canadian children impacted by HIV/AIDS with an unforgettable summer camp experience.

The highlight of this anticipated summer event is the 108 minute-long Yogathon. Vancouver yoga guru Eoin Finn and leading yoga instructors in the city will lead participants through an invigorating and challenging yoga flow, incorporating various styles of yoga. Other teachers in the community will also be on hand to assist practitioners. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi, a beginner or even if you’ve never tried yoga, you can participate.

While the Yogathon is the fundraising focal point of the day, another event must-do is the Blissfest, an engaging and interactive wellness, yoga and sustainability fair that showcases “green-lifestyle” offerings by local individuals, businesses and non-profits. You can expect to find some of Vancouver’s favorite organic eateries, yoga clothing companies and wellness practitioners here.

This year, the Blissfest will feature an “Eco Fashion Show” produced by Honey Mustard Productions and vancouveryoga.com showcasing talented local designers creating ethical yoga and street wear that embodies the west-coast yoga lifestyle. The Blissfest artisan marketplace will host 30+ exhibitors promoting the most sustainable and local products and services that Vancouver has to offer, drawing both competing companies and individuals together in an environment of cooperation and community.

A special addition to this year’s event is a Children’s Activity Tent featuring activities, games, crafts, storytelling, music, “Be a Hero” workshop, and yoga especially for kids! Children under the age of 12 can enter the event for FREE with an adult registration.

Local musical performances by Vancouver’s own Tambura Rasa, Beats Without Borders, and the Ghost Brothers will create an amazing musical experience throughout the day. July 21st has also been officially proclaimed the Annual Yoga Day by the City of Vancouver and Mayor Sam Sullivan, a fitting tribute to the popularity of yoga in the city that invented the Yogathon.

If you live in the Vancouver area, please support this amazing event. If you would like to make an online donation or sponsor a participant, you can do that on the Yogathon’s website as well.
