Are you new to yoga and not sure where to start?

While we believe it is helpful to have the support of a community of practitioners and teachers in your geographical location, especially as a beginner, we also have a growing selection of yoga videos for the New Beginner as well as for more Experienced Beginners. Below are some of our favorites. Enjoy!

  • The beginning is the best place to start, or return to, when practicing yoga. Master yoga teacher, Erich Schiffmann, guides you in this practice designed for beginners and anyone who desires a gentle, well-rounded class. Seated opening poses, sun salutes, standing poses, lotus preparation, backbends, forward folds and twists lead up to a deep relaxation. Produced and edited by Erich, this video provides a safe introduction or valuable refresher in the art of moving into the stillness of yoga.

  • Vanda Scaravelli created this method to work with the natural movement of your body in relation to gravity. Vanda studied for several years with B.K.S. Iyengar and T.K.V. Desikachar, and trained many teachers worldwide in her method. Scaravelli Yoga focuses on the ground, the breath, and the spine. Using these three principles, and the poses demonstrated by Scaravelli Yoga Teacher, Darline Bink, you can create a personalized Yoga practice of your own - whether you want a gentle practice or an energizing one! Releasing the weight of your body towards the earth and lengthening your spine will allow the earth's energy to move throughout your body freely and create an effortless breath. You will discover a freedom or a natural "wave" in your spine. Your mind will become focused and your body free of tension.

  • Appropriate for beginners, or for more experienced yogis on days you just need to be gentle with yourself, this well-rounded practice aims to gently build strength and stamina, improve flexibility and range of motion, heighten body and breath awareness, revitalize and relax. Filmed in a yurt at her spiritual teacher, Shantimayi's, ashram in the French Pyrenees, Sara Avant Stover (also known as Shiromani) draws from Anusara-Inspired Yoga and breath-centered movement in the tradition of TKV Desikachar, striking a balance of vinyasa (flowing through poses with the breath) and static poses. With clear alignment cues and poetic imagery, Sara's instructions aspire to deliver safety and inspiration while guiding you to a still and vibrant place inside - a place that you can come home to everyday.

  • Suzie's "A Daily Anusara Practice for Beginners" is a well rounded practice for those newer to the Anusara Universal Principles of Alignment. In this compilation, Suzie gives a clear description and explanation of the major loops and spirals in many of the basic poses. All the basic standing poses are addressed, along with a few floor poses, and the practice ends with Savasana. Its theme, woven throughout the practice, is "Opening to Grace", the first Universal Principle of Alignment. One beginning student has stated this compilation is "clear, inspirational, and exceptionally helpful for students new to the Anusara method."
