Had a long day at work? With your body breaking into pieces, do you also feel like your eyes are so strained that you just want to close them for some time? Well, it is time for you to feel a little alarmed because your vision is under compromise. There is not one person on this earth who doesn’t “digitally” strain her/his eyes. We spend almost all of our time staring at the screens of our phones and laptops and fail to realise its tremendous impact on our vision.

India is famous for its traditional medicinal practices, one of which is Ayurveda. It is an ancient medicinal practice dated 5000 years back which has clearly shown its positive results on people. Ayurveda sees a person as a whole and not as one or two symptoms and treats a patient holistically. It determines the root cause of the disease and provides a permanent cure which other medicinal practices are unable to do. Instead of providing you a short term relief, Ayurveda finds a long term cure to contribute to your overall health and well being.

We have entered my most favorite time of year. Earth is the name that the Chinese give to the energy of late summer. Earth is the time of harvest and gathering. It is the midpoint in the cycle of life. The time when we raise a family, create a body of work, settle down, and begin to reap the rewards of our labors. Our thoughts turn to nurturing, parenting, mentoring and mothering.

Since the beginning, our mentors have a strong impact on our lives. Our first mentors are usually our parents and we can see how we mimic their qualities and habits, slowly making them a part of our lives. As we grow up and get into schools, our primary school teachers help shape our minds, teaching ways to absorb information from the environment and then processing it. Our upbringing and teaching help shape our futures. A good role-model will influence and encourage us to do better in life.

Read the article and learn about the effect on the lungs when you hold your breath during yoga.

“When the breath is irregular, the mind is unsteady, but when the breath is still, so is the mind still and the Yogi obtains the power of stillness. Therefore, the breath should be restrained.”
~ Hatha Yoga Pradipika

Can we finally begin to breathe a sigh of relief? July was unbearably hot. August invites a cooling down period or at least tells us there is an end in sight! We kept visions of cool ponds, pools, rivers and oceans everywhere we went. In southwestern Virginia, we were lucky to receive plenty of rain in the spring and early summer, but now everything is dry and hot!
