Our yoga practice helps us move from a brain dominated experience to a feeling dominated experience. It helps us transition from a thinking state to a sensing state. As we bring our focus through yoga to a feeling dominated experience, we want to put the spine first. The spine is physically the center of our living system. The spine, as the midline of our body, is the organizing principle around which the physical body takes shape early in our development and remains present throughout life as an organizing force. It is the energetic and intelligent centerline that is driving our life. In yoga we bring the nervous system sensations into our conscious awareness and begin to open up into a rich sensory experience. We feel the system that feels and develops awareness, of the relationship between ourselves and other things.
