Cynthia Woodring began her movement studies with ballet as a child and modern dance into adulthood. She discovered yoga in 1993 and began teaching in 1995. She has a Master of Science in Yoga Therapy from Maryland University of Integrative Health, is certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists, has an E-RYT 500 designation with the Yoga Alliance, and is a certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy practitioner.
Cynthia’s yoga training began with Integral Yoga and continued with the Iyengar and Anusara methods. She has studied with an extensive list of teachers including Sandra Pleasants, Erich Schiffmann, Desiree Rumbaugh, Doug Keller, and Marlysa Sullivan. She also studied body mechanics and the Pilates method with Carla Shifflett. She is passionate about refining her understanding of all aspects of yoga and strives to find the language and methods that will provoke the deepest understanding and transformation for her students. Her primary intention in her teaching is to create an atmosphere of safety, kindness, and exploration. Cynthia currently teaches multi-level Hatha yoga classes at Common Ground Healing Arts and at Opal Yoga in Charlottesville, Virginia and is available for private and group sessions in yoga, individualized yoga therapy, and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy.
