Kelly Harris was introduced to yoga in 2002 and began teaching in the spring of 2006. She has studied extensively under senior teachers of the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition, continues to learn the Intermediate Series under R. Sharath and has received authorization to teach the first level of Matthew Sweeney’s Vinyasa Krama system. She believes in the essential vinyasa technique of Krishnamacharya: the unity of breath and movement enlivens the body and tames the mind. Kelly maintains registration as an experienced yoga teacher (E-RYT) at the 200 hr level with Yoga Alliance.
Kelly primarily instructs at tapas yoga shala, in Davenport, IA, which she co-owns with her husband, Evan. She also travels to instruct workshops at area studios and yoga conferences. Her instruction stays true to the vision of a deep, yet powerfully modern yoga instruction, accessing the contemplative nature of the yoga tradition through the physical practice.
While in Mysore last year, Evan and I had the great pleasure of attending this event at the gates of the Mysore Palace. This year, tapas yoga shala will particiapte as one of 114 events in 34 countries worldwide. Here's just a bit of info on this spectacular organization:
