The development of enhanced levels of perception is a key aspect of our yoga journey. This could be described as the development of the sixth sense, or opening to our extra-sensory capabilities. Our yoga practice moves us from a world dominated by thoughts and thinking to an orientation towards sensing and feeling. Gentle persistence in our movements help us create and feel this change. We can then engage with the change. Our yoga practice helps us awaken the energetic and structural relationships through the body with various positions. The physical work of asana allows energy pathways to open more clearly to allow this energy to move through. Part of what happens as our yoga process develops is that we become able to perceive energy directly. Perceptual growth can occur in many different directions simultaneously. There are many layers to our world and our modern culture tends to focus on a very limited bandwidth of what is “real,” dismissing all that is unseen.
