Asana Post

There are aspects of yoga classes that can be pretty mystifying, from asana, to pranayama, to meditation, to mudras, and mantras. They all make up the practice of yoga, the practice, should we say, of union. Today we're looking at mantra chanting in yoga classes: the reason, the practice, and the benefits. We won’t be going over every single possible mantra and it's meaning(!) but let’s see if we can de-mystify this practice a little bit, and provide you with some more clarity on the importance of mantra chanting.

Quadriceps Locust Pose is an intermediate backbend that tones and strengthens the entire back of the body. The Sanskrit name for the pose, “Salabhasana” (shah-lah-BAHS-uh-nuh), comes from two words: “Salabha,” which means “locust”
“Asana,” which means “pose”
Reclining Hero Pose (Supta Virasana) In Sanskrit, ‘supta’ = ‘reclined’ and ‘vira’ = ‘hero’. Hence the name Supta Virasana or Reclined Hero Pose. A variation of the base yoga pose Virasana (Hero Pose), where the torso is in a backbend while resting the head down on the floor. This is the traditional Hatha Yoga Pose while the same yoga pose in Ashtanga Yoga is called Paryankasana (Couch Pose). The practice of this pose Supta Virasana which is categorized under intermediate level requires strong and flexible lower back. Reclining Hero Pose is considered a base pose as reclining hero pose variations can be derived from this pose.
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a condition in which the force of the blood against the artery walls is too high. This can be aggravated by things like daily/chronic stress, a bad diet, too little exercise, and excess body weight. The causes are usually a mix of lifestyle and genetic, and the treatment to reduce hypertension are lifestyle changes, and medication where necessary.

Spirituality and Science Spirituality and Science is seen by many as two separate things. What we normally call Science is that which we can measure, see and prove. From that perspective, Spirit is perhaps the last thing to be found in any microscope. Both science and spirituality are the search for truth. Science searches the truth of the physical world. Spirituality searches the truth of the consciousness and its relation to the physical world. Science and Spirituality Science provides us with information, but brings about no spiritual growth or transformation But Spiritual or contemplative approach must lead to a profound personal transformation in the way we perceive ourselves and the World

It is that time of year again... Time to come back deeply to ourselves. We shed our autumn skin and now is the time to be with what truly is. Winter, the most Yin time of Year, is Dark, Cold, and Emotional. It is also receptive, feminine, and intuitive.Traditionally this is a time for Retreat. Unfortunately, most of us find ourselves torn between gearing up for the holidays and physiologically slowing down. As we move towards the shortest day of the year, we encounter the Water Element of Winter; a time to nourish our deepest essences, gestating for the weeks leading back towards the light; a time of deep contemplation. What will you contemplate this season?
At this solstice time of year, we just wanted to say Thank You! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support over the last 5 years! It has been challenging to navigate the waters of new media and technology, but your support has made it all worth while. We look forward to serving you through another fantastic year in 2012! Please let us know how we can best be of service to you going forward.
